Quick answer
Dermal filler in Markham at Dr. Monique Mazzuca Aesthetics starts from $600, is injected personally by a licensed physician (MD, CCFP) at 200 Cachet Woods Court, Suite 309, and is booked as a 60-minute appointment. Hyaluronic acid filler restores volume and structure in areas such as the cheeks, temples, chin and jawline, and softens deeper lines that show at rest. Results are immediate, settle over about two weeks, and typically last 6 to 18 months depending on the area and product. Downtime is usually limited to mild swelling or bruising, and hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved if needed. New patients start with a $50 consultation.
What dermal filler is
Dermal filler is an injectable gel placed beneath the skin to restore volume, support and contour. The fillers Dr. Mazzuca uses for facial contouring are made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a sugar molecule that occurs naturally in the skin, where it binds water and helps keep tissue plump. In filler, the hyaluronic acid is cross-linked into a gel so that it lasts for months before the body gradually breaks it down.
Hyaluronic acid fillers are not all the same. Firmer, more cohesive gels are designed to hold shape and are used for structure, such as the cheekbones, chin and jawline. Softer, more flexible gels are used where the tissue moves or the skin is thin. Most also contain a small amount of lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, for comfort. Choosing the right gel for each area is part of the assessment.
A key advantage of hyaluronic acid filler is that it is reversible. If a result is not right, or in the rare event of a complication, an enzyme called hyaluronidase can dissolve it. See filler dissolving.
How dermal filler works
Facial ageing is not only about wrinkles. Over time the facial bones gradually lose some projection, the fat pads that give the face its youthful fullness shrink and shift downward, and the skin produces less collagen. The visible result is flatter cheeks, hollow temples, a softer jawline, and folds such as the nasolabial folds (from the nose to the corners of the mouth) and marionette lines (from the corners of the mouth toward the chin). Some people also simply have a less projected chin or flatter cheekbones by nature.
Filler replaces the support that is missing. Often the most natural approach is to treat the cause rather than the line itself: restoring support in the cheek, for example, can soften a nasolabial fold more naturally than filling the fold directly. Depending on the area, filler is placed deep, close to the bone, for structure, or more superficially for softness, using a fine needle or a blunt cannula.
Dr. Mazzuca assesses the face as a whole before choosing where to treat. A small amount of product in the right place usually looks better than a larger amount spread across every line, and her aim is that people notice you look rested and well, not that you have had filler.
Dermal filler in Markham: what it treats
Areas commonly treated with hyaluronic acid filler include:
- Cheeks and midface: restoring lost volume and gentle lift, which can also soften the folds below.
- Temples: softening hollowing at the sides of the forehead, which can make the face look tired or gaunt.
- Chin: adding projection or length to balance the profile and the lower face.
- Jawline: improving definition and smoothing the line where early jowling begins. See also neck and jawline treatments.
- Nasolabial folds and marionette lines: softening deeper lines that are visible at rest, often by supporting the areas above them.
- Under-eye hollows, in carefully selected patients. Dr. Mazzuca also uses other approaches here; see under-eye rejuvenation.
- Lips and nose, which have their own pages: lip filler and non-surgical rhinoplasty.
Who dermal filler suits, and who should wait
Good candidates are healthy adults with volume loss, flattening, lines that are visible at rest, or a profile they would like to balance, and who want a refreshed version of their own face. Filler can also help patients whose face has become hollow after weight loss.
Filler is not the best tool for every concern. Lines that only appear with expression usually respond better to Botox. Loose or crepey skin is often better addressed by improving the skin itself, for example with Morpheus8 or Forma, and significant sagging may be a surgical question. Dr. Mazzuca will tell you if another treatment, or no treatment, is the better answer.
She will review your medical history and may recommend postponing treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding; have an active infection, acne flare or cold sore in or near the treatment area; have a known allergy to hyaluronic acid filler or lidocaine; have a bleeding disorder or take blood thinners; have an autoimmune or other condition that affects healing; have had permanent filler or an implant in the area; or have recent or upcoming dental work or an important event within two weeks. Bring a list of your medications and supplements to the consultation.
What the appointment is like
- Assessment. Dr. Mazzuca looks at your face from the front and in profile, at rest and in motion, and asks what bothers you most. She explains which areas she recommends, approximately how much product is involved and the cost, before anything is injected.
- Preparation. The skin is cleansed thoroughly. A topical anaesthetic may be used for some areas, and the filler itself usually contains lidocaine.
- Injection. Filler is placed in small, deliberate amounts with a fine needle or a blunt cannula, checking symmetry and contour as she goes. Depending on the number of areas, the injecting takes roughly 15 to 40 minutes.
- Aftercare. A cool pack is applied and you leave with written instructions. A review at about two weeks can be arranged to check the settled result and decide whether anything else is needed.
The visit is booked for 60 minutes. Most patients return to work or normal activities the same day.
Results: when you see them and how long they last
Results are visible immediately. Some swelling is normal for the first few days, so the area may look slightly fuller at first, and the result is judged at about two weeks once the filler has settled into the tissue.
How long filler lasts depends on the product, the area, how much the area moves, and your own metabolism. As a general guide:
| Area | What filler does there | Typical longevity |
|---|---|---|
| Cheeks and midface | Restores volume and support | About 12 to 18 months |
| Chin and jawline | Adds projection and definition | About 12 to 18 months |
| Temples | Softens hollowing | About 12 months, varies |
| Nasolabial folds and marionette lines | Softens deeper lines at rest | About 6 to 12 months |
| Lips | Volume, shape and definition | About 6 to 12 months |
These are ranges, not promises, and some patients find results last longer. Filler fades gradually, and maintenance treatments often need less product than the first.
Downtime, side effects and risks
Common and temporary: swelling, tenderness, redness at the injection points and bruising, which usually fades within 5 to 10 days. The area can feel firm or slightly lumpy for the first week or two while the filler settles.
Less common: asymmetry, lumps or nodules, filler that is visible as a bluish tint if placed too close to the surface, migration of filler away from where it was placed, infection, and delayed swelling or inflammatory reactions that can appear weeks or months later. Most of these can be treated, and hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved if needed.
Rare but serious: vascular occlusion, where filler enters or compresses a blood vessel and reduces blood flow to the skin. Without prompt treatment this can damage the skin. In extremely rare cases, filler that reaches arteries connected to the eye has caused vision loss; this has been reported most often after injections around the nose, between the brows and in the forehead. Warning signs include sudden or severe pain, skin that turns white, dusky or mottled, and any change in vision. These are emergencies, treated promptly with hyaluronidase. Serious allergic reactions are very rare. If you notice any of these signs after treatment, contact the clinic immediately, or go to the nearest emergency department if the clinic is closed.
Careful technique reduces these risks substantially but cannot remove them completely, which is why the experience and training of the person injecting matters so much.
Aftercare: the first 24 to 48 hours
- Use a cool pack wrapped in a cloth for 10 minutes at a time during the first day to reduce swelling.
- Avoid pressing, rubbing or massaging the treated areas unless Dr. Mazzuca has asked you to.
- Skip strenuous exercise, saunas, hot yoga and alcohol for 24 to 48 hours.
- Sleep on your back with your head slightly raised for the first night or two.
- Light makeup can usually go on the next day once the injection points have closed.
- Avoid facials, dental work and other facial treatments for about two weeks.
- Contact the clinic if pain increases rather than settles, if the skin changes colour, or if you notice any change in vision.
To reduce bruising, avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo and alcohol for a few days beforehand unless a physician has prescribed them.
Dermal filler vs Botox, biostimulators and skin tightening
| HA dermal filler | Botox | Sculptra & Radiesse | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it does | Adds volume and structure directly | Relaxes the muscles that crease the skin | Stimulates your own collagen |
| Best for | Cheeks, chin, jawline, temples, lines at rest | Frown lines, forehead lines, crow's feet | Broad volume loss, skin firmness |
| Onset | Immediate | 3 to 5 days | Gradual over weeks to months (Radiesse also gives some immediate lift) |
| Lasts | About 6 to 18 months | 3 to 4 months | About 12 months to 2 years |
| Reversible | Yes, with hyaluronidase | Wears off | No |
| Cost | From $600 | $10 per unit | From $700 |
These treatments work well together. A common plan is Botox to stop the creasing, hyaluronic acid filler for precise structure, and a collagen biostimulator for broader volume and skin quality. If the main concern is loose or crepey skin rather than lost volume, skin treatments such as Morpheus8 RF microneedling or Forma skin tightening may be a better starting point. Dr. Mazzuca plans these together rather than treating one line at a time.
Why patients choose a physician
At this clinic the person assessing you and the person treating you are the same person, and that person is a licensed physician. Dr. Mazzuca is an MD with CCFP certification in family medicine and additional training in cosmetic medicine, facial anatomy, women's health, and longevity medicine. Treatment is not delegated.
Her stated approach is to emphasise "subtle, elegant results that refresh rather than transform, using the least invasive treatments necessary to achieve safe, natural, and lasting outcomes."
Dermal filler is placed in a face that is full of blood vessels and nerves, and the safest placement depends on a detailed understanding of facial anatomy. As a physician, Dr. Mazzuca assesses you, performs the treatment, and recognises and manages any complication herself, including dissolving filler with hyaluronidase. In Ontario, injectables can legally be delegated to nurses and other staff working under a physician's directive; at this clinic they are not.

All appointments are booked online through the clinic's booking system, where current availability and pricing are shown before you confirm.
Dermal filler starts from $600. Your total depends on how many areas are treated and how much product your plan needs, and it is confirmed at your assessment before anything is injected. Larger plans are often staged over more than one visit, which spreads the cost and lets the face adjust gradually. As a simple illustration, a patient who has one treatment at the starting price each year spends about $600 a year, or roughly $50 a month; areas that last longer may need maintenance less often. Cosmetic filler is not covered by OHIP.

Frequently asked questions
How much does dermal filler cost in Markham?
This treatment is from $600 at Dr. Mazzuca's Markham clinic. Exact pricing depends on your assessment and treatment plan, which is confirmed before treatment begins.
Who performs the treatment?
Every treatment is performed by Dr. Monique Mazzuca, a licensed physician (MD, CCFP) with additional training in cosmetic medicine and facial anatomy. It is not delegated to a technician.
How long is the appointment?
This appointment is scheduled for 60 minutes, which includes your assessment, the treatment, and aftercare instructions.
Do I need a consultation first?
If you are new to the clinic, book a Comprehensive Aesthetic Consultation ($50, 30 minutes). Dr. Mazzuca assesses your concerns and builds a plan before any treatment is booked.
Where is the clinic located?
The clinic is at 200 Cachet Woods Court, Suite 309, Markham, Ontario L6C 0Z8, in the Cachet Woods area near Woodbine Avenue and Major Mackenzie Drive. Patients travel from Unionville, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Aurora, Stouffville and across the Greater Toronto Area.
Does dermal filler hurt?
Most patients find it very tolerable. A topical anaesthetic may be used, and most fillers contain lidocaine, so the area becomes numb as treatment goes on. You may feel pressure and brief pinches. Cannulas, when appropriate, can also reduce discomfort and bruising.
How long does dermal filler last?
Typically 6 to 18 months, depending on the area, the product and your metabolism. Structural areas such as the cheeks and chin tend to last longer than areas that move a lot, such as the lips and the lines around the mouth.
Will I look overfilled?
Not with a conservative plan. Dr. Mazzuca's approach is to use the least product needed to restore support and balance, so you look refreshed rather than changed. More can be added at a later visit; it is better to build gradually.
Is there any downtime?
Most people return to normal activities the same day. Swelling and bruising are possible and usually settle within a few days to about 10 days, so book at least two weeks before an important event.
Should I get filler or Botox?
They treat different problems. Botox relaxes the muscles that crease the skin when you make expressions. Filler restores volume and structure that has been lost, and softens lines that are visible at rest. Many patients benefit from a conservative combination, planned at the consultation.
Can dermal filler be dissolved?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, either to adjust a result or urgently in the rare event of a vascular complication. See the filler dissolving page.
Every treatment on this page is booked through Dr. Mazzuca's secure online system. New patients begin with a consultation; returning patients can book the treatment directly.
