Quick answer

Non-surgical rhinoplasty in Markham at Dr. Monique Mazzuca Aesthetics starts from $600, is performed personally by a licensed physician (MD, CCFP) at 200 Cachet Woods Court, Suite 309, and is booked as a 40-minute appointment. Small amounts of hyaluronic acid filler are placed along the nose to smooth the appearance of a bump, straighten the profile, give a slightly drooping tip subtle support or improve symmetry. Results are immediate, downtime is usually limited to mild swelling or redness, and results commonly last around 9 to 18 months, varying from person to person. It cannot make a nose smaller or improve breathing. The nose is a higher-risk area for filler, so careful assessment matters. New patients start with a $50 consultation.

What non-surgical rhinoplasty is

Non-surgical rhinoplasty, sometimes called a "liquid nose job", uses small amounts of hyaluronic acid (HA) filler to change the way the nose looks without surgery. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule that occurs naturally in the skin; in filler it is cross-linked into a gel that holds its shape for months before the body gradually breaks it down.

The treatment works by adding, not removing. Carefully placed filler can make a bump look smoother, a bridge look straighter or a tip look slightly more lifted, because the eye reads the overall line of the nose rather than the volume. It is a refinement, not a reshaping, and it is best suited to people whose concerns are relatively small.

Because the filler is hyaluronic acid, the treatment is reversible. An enzyme called hyaluronidase can dissolve it if the result is not right, or urgently if a complication occurs. See filler dissolving.

How non-surgical rhinoplasty works

Most requests are about the profile. A small hump on the bridge (the dorsum) is a common example: filler placed just above and below the hump creates a straighter line, so the bump is far less noticeable. A low or flat bridge between the eyes (the radix) can be built up slightly to lengthen and balance the profile. A tip that looks a little droopy can be given subtle support, and small dips, irregularities or a slight off-centre appearance can be evened out.

Volumes are small, often less than 1 mL in total, and the filler is placed slowly and in tiny amounts. The nose has a delicate blood supply, so technique is built around safety: careful placement depth, staying close to the midline where possible, slow injection and constant checking of the skin's colour during treatment.

Dr. Mazzuca also looks at the nose in the context of the whole face. The chin, lips and cheeks all affect how the nose is perceived, and occasionally a small change elsewhere, such as adding projection to the chin, does more for the profile than treating the nose itself.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty in Markham: what it treats

Nasal contourSymmetryProfile refinementNo surgery required

Non-surgical rhinoplasty can help with:

  • A small dorsal hump, smoothing the profile so the bump is much less visible.
  • A low or flat bridge, adding gentle height between the eyes.
  • A slightly drooping tip, giving subtle support and a softer angle between the nose and the upper lip.
  • Mild asymmetry or a nose that looks slightly off-centre.
  • Small dips and irregularities, including some minor irregularities after surgical rhinoplasty, only after careful assessment (see below).

What non-surgical rhinoplasty cannot do

Being clear about the limits is part of a good result. Filler adds volume, so it cannot:

  • make a nose smaller or shorter, or reduce a large hump;
  • narrow a wide bridge or wide nostrils, or reduce a large or bulbous tip;
  • improve breathing, correct a deviated septum or treat any functional problem;
  • replace surgery for significant or structural changes.

If what you want needs surgery, Dr. Mazzuca will tell you, and a consultation with a facial plastic surgeon would be the right next step.

Who it suits, and who should wait

Good candidates are healthy adults with relatively small concerns, such as a modest bump, a low bridge or a slightly droopy tip, who want a refined profile without surgery and understand that the result is temporary and the change is subtle. It can also be a way to see what a straighter profile would look like before considering surgery.

Dr. Mazzuca will review your medical history and may recommend waiting, or a different approach, if you:

  • are pregnant or breastfeeding;
  • have an active skin infection, acne or rosacea flare on or around the nose;
  • have had nasal surgery or a nasal injury, particularly recently. Previous surgery can change the blood supply and scar tissue in the nose, which raises the risk of complications, so Dr. Mazzuca will assess this carefully and may advise against treatment;
  • have a known allergy to hyaluronic acid filler or lidocaine;
  • have a bleeding disorder or take blood thinners, or have an autoimmune or other condition that affects healing;
  • want your nose to look smaller, or have concerns that filler cannot realistically address.

What the appointment is like

  1. Assessment. Dr. Mazzuca looks at your nose from the front, in profile and from below, and in relation to the rest of the face. She explains what filler can and cannot achieve for you, the risks, and the cost, before anything is injected.
  2. Numbing. A topical anaesthetic is applied, and the filler usually contains lidocaine for added comfort.
  3. Injection. Filler is placed slowly in very small amounts, with frequent checks of the shape and of the skin's colour. The injecting itself usually takes about 10 to 20 minutes.
  4. Check and aftercare. You stay for a short time afterwards so the skin can be checked before you leave, and you go home with written instructions and a way to contact the clinic.

The visit is booked for 40 minutes. Most patients return to work or normal activities the same day.

Results: when you see them and how long they last

The change is visible as soon as treatment is finished. Mild swelling or redness is common for a few days, and the final result is usually clear within one to two weeks.

Results commonly last around 9 to 18 months, and some patients find they last longer because the nose moves relatively little. Longevity varies with the product, the amount used and your metabolism. When the result begins to soften, a small maintenance treatment is usually enough.

Downtime, side effects and risks

Common and temporary: mild swelling, redness, tenderness and, occasionally, a small bruise at the injection points, usually settling within a few days to a week.

Less common: asymmetry, small lumps or irregularities, a bridge that looks wider if too much product is used, a bluish tint if filler sits too close to the surface, infection, and delayed swelling or nodules weeks or months later. Most of these can be corrected, and the filler can be dissolved.

Rare but serious: the nose is considered one of the higher-risk areas of the face for filler. Its small arteries connect with vessels that supply the skin and, through deeper branches, the eye. If filler blocks one of these vessels (vascular occlusion), it can damage the skin of the nose, and in very rare cases it has caused loss of vision. Warning signs include skin that turns white, dusky or mottled, pain that is severe or increasing, and any change in vision or eye pain. These are emergencies, treated promptly with hyaluronidase. Previous nasal surgery increases this risk. If you notice any of these signs after treatment, contact the clinic immediately, or go to the nearest emergency department if the clinic is closed.

These risks are the main reason Dr. Mazzuca uses small volumes, conservative technique and careful patient selection, and why she may recommend against treatment in some noses.

Aftercare: the first days and weeks

  • Do not press, rub or massage your nose, and avoid manipulating it for about two weeks.
  • Avoid resting glasses or sunglasses on the bridge of the nose for about two weeks if possible; contact lenses, or lifting your glasses slightly, can help.
  • Skip strenuous exercise, saunas, hot yoga and alcohol for 24 to 48 hours.
  • Sleep on your back for the first night or two.
  • Avoid facials, contact sports and other treatments on or near the nose for about two weeks.
  • Makeup can usually go on the next day.
  • Contact the clinic immediately if the skin changes colour, pain increases, or you notice any change in your vision.

To reduce bruising, avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo and alcohol for a few days beforehand unless a physician has prescribed them.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is often combined with other conservative treatments to balance the face. Adding projection to the chin with dermal filler can make a nose look smaller in profile, and lip filler can improve the balance of the lower face. Fine "bunny lines" on the sides of the nose when you smile are treated with Botox rather than filler.

Why patients choose a physician

At this clinic the person assessing you and the person treating you are the same person, and that person is a licensed physician. Dr. Mazzuca is an MD with CCFP certification in family medicine and additional training in cosmetic medicine, facial anatomy, women's health, and longevity medicine. Treatment is not delegated.

Her stated approach is to emphasise "subtle, elegant results that refresh rather than transform, using the least invasive treatments necessary to achieve safe, natural, and lasting outcomes."

The nose is one of the areas where the experience and training of the injector matter most. Its blood supply is delicate and connected to the vessels around the eye, the volumes used are tiny, and recognising a problem in the first minutes is essential. As a physician with additional training in facial anatomy, Dr. Mazzuca assesses you, performs the treatment and manages any complication herself, including dissolving filler with hyaluronidase. She will also tell you when non-surgical rhinoplasty is not the right choice. In Ontario, injectables can legally be delegated to nurses and other staff; at this clinic they are not.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty starts from $600 and is usually completed in a single session, sometimes with a small adjustment at a follow-up. Your exact cost is confirmed at your assessment before anything is injected. As a simple illustration, a patient who has one treatment at the starting price each year spends about $600 a year, or roughly $50 a month; if your result lasts longer, the yearly cost is lower. Cosmetic treatment is not covered by OHIP.

Every treatment is performed by Dr. Monique Mazzuca, a licensed physician (MD, CCFP) with additional training in cosmetic medicine and facial anatomy. It is not delegated to a technician.

How long is the appointment?

This appointment is scheduled for 40 minutes, which includes your assessment, the treatment, and aftercare instructions.

Does non-surgical rhinoplasty hurt?

Most patients find it very tolerable. A topical anaesthetic is applied first and the filler usually contains lidocaine. You may feel pressure and brief pinches, and the nose can feel tender for a day or two.

How long does a non-surgical nose job last?

Commonly around 9 to 18 months, and some patients find it lasts longer because the nose moves relatively little. Longevity varies with the product, the amount used and your metabolism.

Can non-surgical rhinoplasty make my nose smaller?

No. Filler adds volume, so it cannot reduce the size of the nose, narrow it or shorten it. It works by smoothing and straightening the line of the nose, which can make a bump far less noticeable. Reducing a nose requires surgery.

Is non-surgical rhinoplasty safe?

In experienced hands, serious complications are rare, but the nose is one of the higher-risk areas for filler because of its blood supply, and very rare cases of skin damage and vision loss have been reported. Dr. Mazzuca uses small volumes, careful technique and hyaluronic acid filler, which can be dissolved, and she reviews the risks with you before treatment.

Can I have it if I have had a surgical rhinoplasty?

Sometimes, but it needs extra caution. Surgery changes the blood supply and scar tissue in the nose, which can increase the risk of complications. Dr. Mazzuca will assess you carefully and may recommend against filler, or suggest you speak with your surgeon first.

Can I wear glasses after treatment?

It is generally best to avoid resting glasses or sunglasses on the bridge of your nose for about two weeks so the filler is not pressed out of position. Contact lenses, or lifting your glasses slightly off the bridge, can help in the meantime.
