Quick answer

A BioRePeel chemical peel at Dr. Monique Mazzuca Aesthetics in Markham starts at $250 per session and is performed personally by a licensed physician (MD, CCFP) in a 45-minute appointment at 200 Cachet Woods Court, Suite 309. BioRePeel is a medical-grade peel built around buffered trichloroacetic acid (TCA) that exfoliates, hydrates and stimulates collagen with little visible peeling. It is used for acne, pigmentation, fine lines and dull or uneven texture. Most patients notice brighter, smoother skin within a few days, with the best results after a short series. Downtime is usually limited to mild redness and light flaking. New patients start with a $50 consultation.

What BioRePeel is

A chemical peel is a solution applied to the skin that loosens and removes old surface cells and signals the skin to renew itself. Traditional peels are usually described as superficial, medium or deep, and the deeper they go, the more peeling, redness and downtime they cause. Medium-depth peels based on trichloroacetic acid (TCA) have long been used in dermatology for pigment, texture and fine lines, but a classic TCA peel can mean a week of visible shedding and a real risk of pigment change in darker skin.

BioRePeelCl₃® is a newer medical-grade peel designed to keep the benefits of TCA while sharply reducing that downtime. It combines buffered TCA with other acids, amino acids and vitamins in a formula intended to work below the surface while causing much less injury to the outer layer of skin. In practice, most patients see little or no sheet peeling, and many return to work the same day. It is used on the face and neck, and because the surface is barely disrupted it can be used through most of the year, including warmer months, provided sun protection is strict.

How BioRePeel works

The skin renews itself constantly, but with age, sun exposure and acne, the outer layer becomes thicker, duller and less even, pores look larger, and the collagen underneath thins. A peel speeds up that renewal in a controlled way. In BioRePeel, the acids loosen the bonds between dead surface cells so they shed more evenly, which brightens the skin and helps unclog pores. At the same time, the TCA component acts as a stimulus to the deeper layers, where it encourages the skin's own production of collagen and other structural proteins over the following weeks.

The added hydrating ingredients and the way the formula is buffered are what set it apart from an older-style TCA peel: the skin is stimulated without being visibly burned off. That is why the effect is often described as a "biostimulating" peel rather than a resurfacing peel. It is a gradual treatment. One session refreshes the skin; a series is what produces a meaningful change in texture, tone and acne.

BioRePeel in Markham: what it treats

AcnePigmentationFine linesSkin texture and radiance
  • Active acne and congestion. Exfoliation helps clear blocked pores and calm breakouts, and BioRePeel is often used alongside a medical skincare routine as part of an acne treatment plan.
  • Post-acne marks. The brown or pink marks that linger after spots heal, which are not true scars, often fade faster with a series of peels.
  • Pigmentation and uneven tone. Mild sun damage, dullness and some types of hyperpigmentation. Melasma can improve but tends to recur, so it needs a long-term plan rather than a single treatment.
  • Fine lines and early ageing. Fine, crepey lines and loss of glow, particularly on the cheeks and around the eyes.
  • Texture and enlarged pores. Rough or uneven texture and the look of large pores on the nose and cheeks.
  • Dull, dehydrated skin. A quick refresh before an event, because the downtime is usually minimal.

BioRePeel is not designed to tighten loose skin, lift jowls or fill deep folds, and it will soften but not erase deeper acne scars. Those concerns respond better to other treatments, discussed in the comparison below.

How many sessions you need

A single BioRePeel gives most patients a visibly fresher, brighter look within a few days. For lasting change, Dr. Mazzuca usually recommends a short course, with the exact number based on your skin and goals:

GoalTypical sessionsTypical spacing
Glow, dullness, event preparation1 to 21 to 2 weeks apart
Texture, pores, fine lines3 to 41 to 2 weeks apart
Acne, post-acne marks, pigmentation4 to 61 to 2 weeks apart
Maintenance1Every 1 to 3 months, or seasonally

These are typical ranges, not fixed rules. Spacing may be adjusted if your skin is sensitive, and peels are often alternated with other treatments rather than done back to back.

How much BioRePeel costs in Markham

A BioRePeel session with Dr. Mazzuca starts at from $250, booked as a 45-minute appointment. As an illustration only, a course of four sessions at the starting price would be from $1,000; your actual plan and price are confirmed with you before treatment begins. New patients begin with the $50 Comprehensive Aesthetic Consultation, or a $20 virtual consultation if you are outside the area.

Chemical peels for cosmetic reasons are not covered by OHIP, and most private plans do not cover them either. The full booking steps and prices are listed in the booking table below.

Who BioRePeel is for, and who should wait

BioRePeel suits most adults who want clearer, brighter, smoother skin without the downtime of a deeper peel or laser. It is a good fit for people with acne-prone or congested skin, for those dealing with marks and dullness after breakouts, and for patients in their thirties, forties and beyond who want a gradual improvement in tone and fine lines. With careful assessment and strict sun protection, it can be used on a wide range of skin tones, including many East Asian, South Asian and Middle Eastern skin types, although deeper skin tones always carry some risk of pigment change with any peel.

Dr. Mazzuca will review your history and may recommend postponing or avoiding a peel if you:

  • are pregnant or breastfeeding (peels are generally deferred as a precaution);
  • have an active cold sore, infection, open wound, rash, eczema or dermatitis flare in the area;
  • have taken isotretinoin (Accutane) recently, usually within the past six months;
  • have a sunburn, a fresh tan, or plan intense sun exposure in the weeks after treatment;
  • have had waxing, threading, laser or another resurfacing treatment in the area very recently;
  • have a known allergy or sensitivity to any of the peel's ingredients;
  • have a history of keloid scarring, severe sensitivity, or a skin condition such as active rosacea that may flare.

If you use prescription retinoids or exfoliating acids, you will usually be asked to stop them for several days before the peel.

What the appointment is like

  1. Assessment. Dr. Mazzuca examines your skin, reviews your skincare, medications and history, and confirms the peel is appropriate. If you have a history of cold sores she may suggest a preventive antiviral.
  2. Cleanse. Makeup and oil are removed so the solution can act evenly.
  3. Application. The peel is applied and gently worked into the skin in layers. Most patients feel warmth, tingling or a brief sting for a few minutes. Numbing is not usually needed.
  4. Removal and calming. After a short contact time, the solution is removed and a calming moisturizer is applied.
  5. Sun protection and instructions. A broad-spectrum sunscreen is applied, and you leave with written aftercare. Many patients look slightly pink, as if after a brisk walk in the cold.

The appointment is booked for 45 minutes, which includes the assessment, the treatment and your aftercare instructions.

Results: when you see them and how long they last

Most patients notice brighter, softer, more even-looking skin within three to seven days, once any light flaking settles. Improvements in acne, marks and texture build over the course of a series, and collagen-related changes, such as fine lines and firmness, continue to develop for several weeks after the last session.

Results are real but not permanent. The skin keeps ageing, the sun keeps damaging it, and acne and pigment can return, especially melasma. Maintenance peels every one to three months, a consistent home routine and daily sunscreen are what keep results going. Results vary between patients and no particular outcome can be guaranteed.

Downtime, side effects and risks

Expected: warmth, tingling or stinging during treatment; redness and a feeling of tightness for a few hours to a day; dryness and fine, light flaking for two to five days in some patients. Many people have no visible peeling at all.

Less common: more noticeable peeling, a temporary breakout, mild swelling, or irritation if aftercare instructions are not followed. A cold sore can be triggered in people who are prone to them.

Rare but important: post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin), which is more likely in deeper skin tones and when the skin is exposed to sun during healing; lighter patches; allergic or contact reactions; infection; and, very rarely with any acid peel, a burn or scarring. These risks are lower with a physician assessing your skin, choosing the right protocol and managing any problem early. Dr. Mazzuca reviews them with you before you consent.

Aftercare

  • First 24 hours: use only a gentle cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen. Avoid makeup if you can, and skip heavy exercise, saunas, hot tubs and swimming.
  • First 48 hours: keep the skin moisturized and avoid touching, rubbing or scrubbing it.
  • Several days: do not use retinoids, vitamin C, exfoliating acids or scrubs, and avoid waxing, threading or other facial treatments until Dr. Mazzuca advises.
  • Do not pick or peel flaking skin. Let it shed on its own to avoid marks.
  • Sun protection: broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every day, reapplied when outdoors, with a hat in summer. Sun exposure during healing is the most common cause of pigment problems after a peel.
  • Contact the clinic if you have blistering, oozing, increasing pain or anything that worries you.

BioRePeel vs microneedling, IPL and Morpheus8

In short: choose a peel for tone, clarity and acne with little downtime; SkinPen microneedling when texture and scarring are the main concern; Lumecca IPL for brown spots and redness on suitable skin; and Morpheus8 or Forma when loosening skin is the issue. Peels also pair well with injectables such as Botox, which address movement lines that a peel cannot. Dr. Mazzuca often combines or alternates these within one plan, with appropriate spacing between treatments.

Why patients choose a physician

At this clinic the person assessing you and the person treating you are the same person, and that person is a licensed physician. Dr. Mazzuca is an MD with CCFP certification in family medicine and additional training in cosmetic medicine, facial anatomy, women's health, and longevity medicine. Treatment is not delegated.

Her stated approach is to emphasise "subtle, elegant results that refresh rather than transform, using the least invasive treatments necessary to achieve safe, natural, and lasting outcomes."

For a peel, that matters in practical ways. A physician can tell the difference between acne, rosacea, melasma and other conditions that look similar but are treated differently; recognize when a peel is the wrong choice; prescribe an antiviral if you are prone to cold sores; and manage a reaction promptly if one occurs. Your peel is chosen for your skin, not from a menu.

Does BioRePeel hurt?

Most patients feel warmth, tingling or a mild sting for a few minutes while the peel is on, which settles once it is removed. Numbing is not usually needed.

Will my skin peel a lot?

Usually not. BioRePeel is designed to cause little visible peeling. Some patients have light, fine flaking for two to five days; many have none. Most return to work the same day or the next.

How many BioRePeel sessions will I need?

One session gives a refresh. For acne, marks, texture or fine lines, a course of three to six sessions about one to two weeks apart is typical, followed by maintenance every one to three months. Dr. Mazzuca will recommend a plan for your skin.

Yes. Peels are often alternated with SkinPen microneedling or Lumecca IPL, or done alongside injectables such as Botox. Treatments are spaced appropriately, and Dr. Mazzuca will plan the order with you.

Peels are generally postponed during pregnancy and breastfeeding as a precaution. Dr. Mazzuca can suggest a gentle routine in the meantime.
